The Help by Kathryn Stockett

The HelpThe Help by Kathryn Stockett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't."

I really enjoyed this book. Loved it infact. I can't wait to go out and get the movie now...Like right now... this second.
The book is narrated by 3 characters Skeeter, Minny and Aibileen. You can't mistake whose voice you are hearing as they all have such a uniqueness about them. It's set in Mississippi in the early 60's when Martin Luthur King is Marching in Washington. It has left me thinking that even though we don't treat people like they did, making them use a separate toilet or not sitting at the same table when eating etc. It saddens me to realise we are still so racist/prejudice against people that are different, be it Race, Gender or Sexuality.

If we could all take just one thing from this book it should be something Skeeter thought.

"We are just two people. Not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I thought."
