Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her pack, but she’s done taking orders. After her Alpha wolf mate refused to claim her—but committed to interfering in her life—she took off. Now she hides from him, posing as a human in a town full of anti-shifter extremist groups. She thinks he’ll never find her again, and that suits her just fine. But she’s wrong.
Nick Axton can barely control his feelings for Shaya, but he could never claim her—not if he truly cares for her. The degenerative brain condition he keeps secret would ultimately leave her with a burden rather than a mate. But when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t bear the thought of never seeing her again. After tracking her down, he discovers Shaya’s feisty and passionate side in the process…a side he’d never seen before.
Under the menacing gazes of territorial local packs and violent human extremists, Nick vows to finally claim the spirited Shaya…and despite her initial resistance, Shaya just might find his fiery determination to be the ultimate aphrodisiac.
Review
Ms Wright has done it again. I just love her shifters.
In the previous books we met both Shaya and Nick and we knew they were True Mates. We just didn't know why Nick wouldn't claim her. Why he pretty much snubbed her. This story starts where the last one pretty much left off with Shaya having just left town. I totally fell for Nick, he tried and did absolutely everything to prove himself to Shaya.
“You’re indispensable to me—essential to me on every level. I wouldn’t be here, suffering the company of your old pack and listening to some pervert constantly hit on you with cheesy pickup lines if you weren’t.”
She was a bitch to him, which pissed me right off, but in her defence she didn't know his whole story and thought he was just being a prick.
We meet a few new characters in this book. Roni, Nick's sister is one I can't wait to see more of. She often spends months in her wolf form. Derren is another who intrigues me. Ooh, and Kent I hope we get to see his story, he's gay so finding out who his mate is will be interesting. But don't panic we get to see some familiar faces too. Taryn and Greta's bartering had me crying with laughter.. Those two crackle up. Of course Dominic was still being suicidal by flirting with any female that breathed.
