Shadows of the Past (Others of Edenton #2) by Brandy L. Rivers

Shadows of the Past (Others of Edenton, #2)Shadows of the Past by Brandy L. Rivers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

* I received an ARC from the author for an honest review *

"Haunted by memories of her past, Amethyst Lakes left her home to come to Edenton. She was ready to start a new life on her own after being stalked relentlessly.
Hayden Hunter is too busy being Sheriff to take interest in a woman.
That is until his officer drags Amethyst into his life. For the first time he wants to protect and claim.
There’s instant attraction between the two, but Amethyst isn’t ready for anyone since she found out her ex killed himself after she sent him away for good.
Preston has always protected Amethyst, and when he finds out something of legend and nightmares is coming for her, he’ll do everything he can to keep her safe.
Amethyst is either the catalyst to bring nightmares fully into this realm, or the one to end them. Can she find the power to stop the darkness, or will she wind up its prey?
Pretty little nymph, suspicious but sexy earth fae, cocky mage, and a nightmare of old."

I was super excited for this book to be released because I loved the previous Edenton books, #1 In Too Deep , #0.5 New Beginnings, #1.5 Shadows Fall. Brandt's characters are so lovable, I just wish I lived in Edenton with them all.

Shadows of the Past was Amethyst's story, it carries on from book #1 and book #1.5. I really liked Amethyst she was a caring soul who doesn't like what her far powers can do.
Hayden the suspicious Sheriff we met in previous books has a larger role in this book, I loved seeing more of him, I wish we got to see more of what his Earth Fae powers can do. Hopefully we can see that somewhere in future books.
We saw a lot more of Preston then I was expecting. You could say his life oath changes in the book, I can't wait to see what instore for him in the future.
Now the Robert, Liz and Tremaine triangle is intriguing... Ms Rivers give me more!

The storyline flowed really well and like I said earlier I just adore all these characters. I can't wait to pick up the next book that Brandy gives us.

ShadowsOfThePast

A little snippet
Preston nodded and went in without knocking. Hayden sat back in his chair with a scowl but didn’t say a word.
“We need to talk. I’m sure Paavo already told you I was coming.”
He nodded. “Then sit and we’ll talk.”
Preston squared his shoulders and stood his ground. “How much did Paavo tell you?”
“That Mathis believes my suspicions are correct.”
 “And those are?”
Hayden’s brow arched. “Why do you care? This isn’t your town. You’re not invested in this.”
Asshole always thought he knew everything. Preston glared back. “I care about what happens to my friends, and I have a few here. I don’t want anything to happen to Amethyst, Jamie, Fallon or anyone else for that matter.”
Hayden snarled, “Amethyst? Tell me you haven’t touched her.”
Preston seethed at that assumption and snarled back, “If you lay a single hand on her, I swear to God I will tear you apart.” He could just imagine that big asshole trampling all over her sweet personality. He’d ruin her worse than Preston ever could.
The sheriff shot to his feet and the whole building shook as his anger radiated through the room. “What have you done to her? That innocent young woman doesn’t deserve trash like you.”
“Done?” He let out a bitter laugh. “I protected her from the likes of Jarvis. I’ve kept her safe from the Council when her piece of shit, stalker ex accused her of enthralling him.”
 Hayden’s mouth fell open. “What?”
Preston’s nostrils flared and his eyes narrowed. “You heard me.”
“You haven’t fucked her like every other woman you see?”
“Hey, I haven’t been with anyone but Jamie for over a year. I know I have a bad reputation, but have you ever seen me looking in another woman’s direction?”
Hayden took a deep breath and shook his head no. “True, but after what Tom said you told Brody, I just assumed.”
“Well fuck you. I was there the day Amethyst was born. I will never let anyone hurt her. That means you, asshole.”
Hayden glared back but nodded slightly before taking his seat. “So the Shadows?”
Preston grudgingly took a seat and considered how much to tell the judgmental Fae meat shield.
“Why don’t you just put it all out on the table? I need to know what in the abyss is going on.” He growled. Preston scowled. “It’s still under investigation. I can’t give you all the details as they are still classified.” And he’d be damned if he gave this prick any reason to suspect Amethyst had a hand in this mess. “An old fae scroll was found in a dead warlock’s apartment. Here’s the thing, the council didn’t find the scroll in the first sweep of the apartment. There was a dark spell hiding the real mess. There was blood and that shadow shit everywhere. I also found an old fae scroll. It’s written in a combination of the fae languages. Archives are trying to decipher it.”
Hayden narrowed his eyes. “A fae scroll? Shit. The warlock really released a Shadow Fae into this realm?”
 “Looks that way.”
“And you didn’t think it might be smart to contact a fae about it?” Hayden’s nostrils flared and his chest heaved. “We’re talking real chaos being unleashed, and you just keep this shit to yourselves?”
Preston shot to his feet. “What do you think you can do about it? Huh? Got some answers? I just shared information I don’t believe you can do a damned thing about, and instead of offering some sort of explanation, you’re complaining that I don’t trust you.”
Hayden stood up and looked down at him. “How am I supposed to help if you guys don’t trust me with all the information? I can’t tell you anything new without all of the facts.”
“Newsflash, asswipe, I just gave you facts. It looks like a warlock released a shadow fae into this realm, and died in the process. What else can I tell you?”
“You don’t have the scroll. I can’t confirm it. Can you at least give me a name so I can check into it?”
“Carl Umbra. Good luck with that. We’ve already looked into the warlock.” With that, Preston stormed off.

Meet Brandy L Rivers

Author, Mom, wife, and lover of all things paranormal. I read a little of everything, but I definitely love my monsters and casters. I have a wonderful husband and three great kids. I do a ton of writing mostly to keep myself sane, though a lot of people would tell you I'm nuts. Well, maybe I am, but I don't mind. Shadows of the Past is the fourth title in the Others of Edenton series. New Beginnings is the prequel. It was actually written after In Too Deep which is the first book. Shadows Fall is a novelette that comes right as In Too Deep ends, and leads up to Shadows of the Past. Next in line is Falling Into Place, which is Robert's story, and I want it ready by early 2014. That's all I'll say for now. I don't want to give too much away. I have many more planned after that. There is even a spinoff in the works. The first one will be Nights Embrace and will be the first book in the Others in Seattle series. I'm going to try to have that one ready sometime early 2014. Then there's Storm Mistress which you'll get to see a couple new faces from Shadows of the Past again.

Have you met the rest of the Others? ooe banner

Storm Shells (The Wishes Series #3) by GJ Walker-Smith

Storm Shells  (The Wishes Series, #3)Storm Shells by G.J. Walker-Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was so lucky to receive an ARC of this beautiful book.

GJ Walker -Smith is the bomb. Storm Shells was everything I could have wished for and more. It's taken me a good 15 hours after finishing to be able to even contemplate a review that will do it justice. I still don't know how I will do that.

Synopsis:
"The only way to move forward was to go back to the very beginning….
After three miserable weeks without Charli, Adam makes the decision to follow her, desperately hoping to find a way of following through on his promise of a happy ending.
He finds her back in Pipers Cove, healing her broken heart by spending time with the one person who never lets her down.
Both know nothing has changed. They're desperately in love, hopelessly stuck in limbo, and unable to find common ground.
When fate offers them a chance at a different kind of ending, it’s a one-shot deal. Running with it means changing their plans – something neither of them has ever been willing to do before, even for each other.
Just as one begins to find their way, the other completely loses direction – and neither of them realise that time is running out."

Second Hearts left us with Charli and Adam in different countries and no HEA in sight. Storm Shells picks up where we were left off. We get a nice flash back to Charli's childhood years, where we get to see who she gets her fairy stories and saving wishes ideas from. We get to see the relationship between Alex and Charli and know what we know about their relationship now made it all the more sweeter.

I loved everything about this book, I laughed out loud so many many times I lost count. GJ also made me cry quite a few times too.
Charli was he wonderful self, I love all her fairy stories. I am left wishing I was brought up with those. I'd love to live in La La Land.
Adam, where do I start with Adam. I yoyo'd between wanting to punch him when he was being a super duper ass, and wanting to kiss him when he was being wonderful.

I was so happy to get to spend a little time with Ryan, there has always been something about Ryan that captures a piece if my heart, maybe it's just because I can see he needs someone's heart. I'm secretly hoping we will eventually get a Ryan book. Pretty please GJ, with a cherry on the top.

Now my favourite man in the world, Alex. I just love Alex, he's sweet, funny and wise... And oh so yummy. He's only 8years older then me so there is nothing wrong with me falling for the father of the heroine. Lol.. He made me laugh so much throughout this book, the bogan golf.. See I said he was wise, who else would come up with something like that?
He also squeezed my heart with his words.

GJ Walker-smith deserves a big award for this beautiful story, she is an amazing writer. I opened the first page and couldn't put it down until I had finished and then I wanted to start it all over again. I totally Los all chances of winning the mother of the year award because I totally ignored my kids for the day.. Hey they got fed, that has to get me something right?

Everyone needs to but this book. I can't wait to get my hands on a paperback copy. I'm looking forward to reading more from GJ, especially Alex's story that I know she is working on..

I'll leave you with my favourite quote from the Storm Shells.. After telling you one more time, to buy this book as soon as it's released on November 25.

“I’ve jumped out of a tall tree this time, Alex,” I muttered.

He finally smiled, though it had a rueful tinge. “I’m standing at the bottom of it, Charli. You’ll be fine.”
